Top 5 Lakes in Utah for Boating (2025 Guide)

The best lakes in Utah for boating in 2025. From Bear Lake's turquoise water to Lake Powell's canyon walls — here's where to launch this summer.

Utah is one of the most underrated boating states in the country. You've got mountain reservoirs, desert canyon lakes, warm flatwater, and deep clear water — sometimes within a couple hours of each other. Here's our honest take on the five best places to take a boat in Utah right now.

1. Bear Lake — The Caribbean of the Rockies

If you haven't been to Bear Lake you're missing out. The water is a color you genuinely can't believe until you see it — a turquoise-blue that comes from suspended limestone particles. Sandy beaches rim most of the lake, there are multiple boat ramps and a full marina on the Utah side, and the water stays cold even mid-summer, hovering around 55–65°F. That's part of the charm. Drive from Saratoga Springs: about 2.5 hours.

2. Lake Powell — Epic Canyon Water

Lake Powell is a bucket list boat trip. The red canyon walls rising straight out of the water, the slot canyons you can only reach by boat, the sheer scale of the reservoir — it's unlike anything else in Utah. It's a longer haul from Saratoga Springs (about 4 hours) but absolutely worth it for a multi-day trip. Book a campsite at Wahweap or Antelope Point and make a weekend of it.

3. Jordanelle Reservoir — Best Near Park City

Jordanelle is one of the cleaner, clearer reservoirs in Utah and it sits at about 6,000 feet elevation near Park City. The water quality is consistently good, the ramps are well maintained, and you're looking at the Uinta Mountains on one side and the Wasatch on the other. About 45 minutes from Saratoga Springs. Great for a day trip with the family.

4. Deer Creek Reservoir — Mountain Boating Done Right

Deer Creek sits in Provo Canyon and it's one of the most popular boating spots along the Wasatch Front for good reason. It's big enough to stretch your legs, the wind is usually reliable if you sail, and wakeboarding conditions are solid on calm mornings. About 40 minutes from us. Expect it to be busy on summer weekends.

5. Yuba Lake State Park — The Hidden Gem

Yuba doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's about 2 hours south of Salt Lake, the water is warm, the beaches are sandy, and on a weekday you can almost have the place to yourself. Great for tubing, fishing, and leisurely lake days without the crowds. Facilities have improved a lot in recent years — it's worth the drive.

What About Utah Lake?

Utah Lake is right in our backyard in Saratoga Springs and it's having a real comeback. Water quality has improved significantly, the algae bloom situation is much better managed, and it's the most convenient launch point if you're picking up from us. Great for fishing, jet boating, and getting comfortable with a new boat before heading further out.
